Some 2.3 million will be available exclusively to those who were left empty-handed in the initial ballot .

They will be sold through Ticketmaster on a first-come, first-served basis.

The 1.2 million applicants who failed to secure a ticket first time round will have a 10-day window to purchase tickets.

The remaining 700,000 people who already have tickets but would like more will get their chance from July 8.

A total of 21 events have sold out completely, but there is still good availability for many of the team sports.

Some 1.7 million of the remaining tickets are for football, with hockey and volleyball also plentiful.

Locog chairman Lord Seb Coe sought to reassure those who may have become disillusioned with the process.

He told Sky News he had a "real commitment to get as many of those people who currently have been unsuccessful into the stadium by 2012".

"We've got 2.3 million tickets available for the second round and my objective is to get two thirds of the 1.9 million people who applied for tickets into a venue.

"We know who they are, they're sports fans, they're sports mad.

"They signed up for the journey, they signed up to the website, they joined the application and I want them in the (venues) and that's my commitment."

The tickets going on sale on Friday include 44 medal events across 310 sessions.

Applicants can apply for up to three sessions each, with the maximum number of tickets in most sessions limited to six.

While many of the popular events are sold out, there are still 40,000 athletics tickets available, although most are in the higher price bracket.

The most prestigious track and field session left is the women's 4x100m final and men's 4x400m final, with tickets costing £725.

Basketball fans who missed out on the men's final can still purchase tickets for the women's.

While the women's beach volleyball final is a sell-out, there is still availability for the men's.

A further one million tickets will go on general sale at the end of the year.
