AC-3 AVI 'Play to' Xbox 360 problem in newest update.
So, files played via my PC and 360 play fine. But, when I use the 'Play to..." function on my PC (with right-click) and play an AC-3 AVI file to my 360 that way, the audio makes... kind of like a "heartbeat" sound, every other second. I've never experienced this before, and I am using the default Microsoft codecs. AC-3 files in MKV/MP4 are fine. MP3/DTS is fine. Can anybody explain this? The files all play great on the PC and when I play them using the 360, so that's more than I could ever hope for. It's just another weird bug that has no explanation. Why would the files play fine on the PC, but mess up when using 'Play to?' Eh, whatever. I noticed some other posts about AC-3 problems lately on this forum, so I guess this is just another one of those problems. I just wanted to say that I'm pretty sure this issue has something to do with the 64bit version of FFDShow. When I open up 64bit VirtualDub and try to encode audio, I get an error that VirtualDub crashed due to FFDShow. In addition, using 'Play to...' the Xbox 360 Media Extender tries to use FFDShow instead of the MS Codecs (even when only the MS Codecs are disabled), and that's when AC3 audio doesn't work. VirtualDub 32-bit does not crash when trying to encode audio. All of these issues are related to the 64bit FFDShow. Is there a way you can look into this? I'm not the only one having issues, it seems. Many people have been complaining about AC-3 audio, lately. Perhaps it's best to just go back and use an older version of FFDShow, where everything worked perfectly. Also, it turns out that I spoke to soon about the Windows File Associations being fixed. If you press the button once, it's fine. But, if you then press the button on the 64bit app, it breaks. Reset All fixes it. Pressing it again on the 32bit app breaks it again - and Reset All will NOT fix it. I now have to do a System Restore. Please fix this!
