Last week on Platinum Hit : The contestants went on a road trip to get inspiration for Road Songs. In this case, "Road Song" means meandering breakup songs. Johnny won the hook challenge and he celebrated by getting all Flirty Gertie with Jes. At the performances, guest judge Natasha Bedingfield loved the son Team Jes came up with, but it was Johnny Mayer-Johnson who won the song challenge. Jackie's song was a miss and Karen was sent home. Now nine contestants remain, who will be eliminated This week's show opens at the apartments the day after Karen's elimination. Nick is depressed that she went home, calling Karen "the sweetest girl I ever met." I thought he wasn't here to make friends. Anyway, Nick interviews that he doesn't like Jackie's personality and he wouldn't be sad to see Melissa go, either. Jackie interviews that she is scrappy and ready to fight. As we move to the studio, Johnny reminds us that he was happy to have won last week's hook and song challenge. Jewel enters wearing an off-the-shoulder dress that looks like it has been resourced from scuba suits. This week's hook challenge asks the contestants to write about superpowers. However, the hook should be performed as a rap. To help with the judging (because Jewel should not be trusted on this one) is Rodney Jerkins, who has worked with Michael Jackson, Black Eyed Peas and Lady GaGa. Johnny interviews that Rodney is "the ish," adding he doesn't want to look like a "douche-tool" in front of the guest. Step one: don't use the phrase "the ish." The contestants get to work. Sonyae interviews that rap has influenced her all her life, so she has this in the bag. Jackie admits that she isn't a rapper (I know!) but she'll still give this a go. Melissa says she loves rap, particularly Tupac, but has never written in the style. I really want to see Melissa's OKCupid profile, I bet it is baffling. Scotty interviews that Melissa is riding on everyone's coattails and no one seems to be able to shake her, no matter how hard they try. Johnny says he doesn't know anything about superheroes, so he's relying on his knowledge of Game Genie cheats to help him through this process. I guess the Konami Code rap was already taken. Time for judging. Melissa's up first with her superpower Instant Love. Scotty gets down to lyrics, but I can't tell if he's being snarky or not.
