Shenandoah tabs Iman-Bianchi

Iman-Bianchi, a Virginia Beach native, comes to Shenandoah after serving as Project Team Developer for the U.S. Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach.

Iman-Bianchi also has been a head coach in the Olympic Development program at the training center since 2006 and served as an assistant coach at Christopher Newport University from 2004 through 2010.

The Captains made NCAA Tournament appearances in three of her seasons as lead assistant, including a trip to the Elite 8 in 2006.

A 2007 graduate of the University of Phoenix, Iman-Bianchi (playing as Kim Iman) played her collegiate field hockey at Longwood University. The Lancers played in four ECAC tournaments during her career, winning the title in her senior season, and Iman-Bianchi was the team captain and MVP for her final two seasons.

Iman-Bianchi was named as a four-time All-America and earned Longwood female Athlete of the Year honors in 1999.

As a high school player at Frank W. Cox in Virginia Beach, she won four state titles and set numerous state records including career shutouts, shutouts in a season and most consecutive shutouts.

"I am very excited to take over this position," Iman-Bianchi said. "With the program moving into the ODAC this season, I believe we have the potential to be very competitive right away.

"With an outstanding facility in which to play and all that Shenandoah has to offer academically, we have the potential to be an outstanding program year after year.

"I can't wait to get started."

Iman-Bianchi is just the second field hockey coach in program history. Lois Bowers, who started the program in 2004, resigned her position in May.

"Coach Iman-Bianchi brings our field hockey program a mix of player accomplishment and coaching experience that makes her the ideal fit for our head coaching position," Dr. Edwards stated.

"Her achievements at Christopher Newport and with the Olympic Development program will prove invaluable to the future of our program. "We are tremendously excited to have her join our staff."

Iman-Bianchi starts her full-time position Aug. 1.
