San Diego, Calif. (June  16, 2011) The Honest Kitchen, makers of all-natural, dehydrated whole foods for dogs and cats, shared customer feedback from their 2011 annual survey today. The survey was distributed through the company’s monthly newsletter and on their facebook page, and was completed by more than 2500 customers.

Of the applicable customers polled, pet owners noted improvement in the following areas after they began feeding The Honest Kitchen’s dehydrated whole foods:

77.6% noted that The Honest Kitchen helped their pet’s digestion

75.1% said their pet's wellbeing/energy levels increased

70.6% saw improvement in their pet’s skin and coat

68.7% noticed a reduction in their pet’s symptoms

59% saw improvement in pet’s weight

49.7% of pets’ itchiness improved

37.1% of pet's ear infections improved

35.5% were able to reduce their pet’s medication

This survey was distributed, recorded and analyzed by The Honest Kitchen. Customers used The Honest Kitchen as their pet’s sole diet, or as a component of a varietal approach to feeding. Over 50% of the respondents had used The Honest Kitchen for more than one year.

I would like to know the symptoms of dehydration, because I fear my cat might be dehydrated. No, I do not neglect him. I make sure to keep his water bowl full at all times. Anyways, if a cat is dehydration would their gums and mouth be dry? Would it make the cat lethargic? If so how much would it move,walk, etc or would it even move? Please just list the symptoms to look out for in description. Please and thank you.

If you lift up the scruff of their neck, the fur should go right back. If the skin stays up a little bit, then he could be dehyrated. Sometimes they’re lethargic and their cheeks can look a little sunken.

If you think he’s sick, take him to the vet. Cats are so good at hiding illness that even mild things are work checking on. I would feed him a good quality canned food, also.

if you are feeding him dry food then he is definitely dehydrated, that stuff kills many cats due to liver and kidney problems and if he has a dandruff like problem with the skin then that’s another symptom, on the dry food packs it always says make sure your cat drinks plenty of water when using the food, have you ever tried to MAKE a cat drink, they expect moisture and fluid in their food

my cat became dehydrated and her symptoms was dry heaving, sleeping alot, not walking well, like she was a 100 year old cat, and her eyes gave it away the most. Very dull looking. If your cat throws up alot that is a for sure sign. If your in doubt get your cat to the vet. My cat spent 2 days in the hospital hooked to an I.V.It can be very serious.

2. the "snap back" test alone is enough evidence but it can’t hurt to check 2 things. And another thing to check is something that you guessed yourself : Feel the cat’s gums; they should feel smooth. If they instead feel "tacky" / sticky, that’s another sign of dehydration.

Dehydration does indeed make them lethargic. It can also feel nauseated and may lose its appetite. If badly dehydrated it will not move much. in fact i can die.

If your cat is dehydrated there is something more going on that you need to get checked out by a vet and it might take more than just drinking water, he might need some fluids (not just plain water but including certain minerals ) injected under his skin (which is then gradually absorbed), or if severely dehydrated then he needs to be rehydrated via IV (into the vein).
